Freelance Fizzle?

With a title like "Freelance Fizzle! The Decline and Fall of the Writer," I simply had to read this piece in The New York Observer.

Based on the comments, I'm not the only one who found it provocative.

For my own part, I'll just say that we can't all go to Yale or Vassar, or get internships at Harper's or Newsweek, or live in book-clogged apartments on the Upper West Side and spend weekends at ramshackle houses in the Hamptons, or be regular contributors to glossy print magazines.

But it doesn't make us any less worthy as writers.
